boxwood netsuke of a recumbent goat - Rakumin - 19th century
A stained boxwood netsuke of a recumbent goat with jet- inlaid eyes and pensive mien. This splendid carving, its fur deeply undercut and horns finely textured, lies with his legs tucked neatly beneath him. For such a small creature, he is given tremendous presence by the famed artist. Rakumin signature. Height, 1"; length, 1.5". 19th century.
